About
I live in a condo in Seattle with my partner Rachel and two rescue cats, Sombra (tuxedo) and Paloma (calico), who run the place. I ride a Triumph. I read a lot of Tolkien and sci-fi. David Foster Wallace is probably my favorite author, which explains both my footnote habit and my sentence length. I study runes, which started as a rabbit hole and hasn't ended. I make maps, mostly for the sake of making maps. I play games when I can. ARAM in League, Elden Ring, Expedition 33. I go to the gym most days. Landmine presses are the best exercise.

Hermit Rapid, Grand Canyon.
For a living, I build machine learning systems. How I got here is less straightforward.
I studied journalism because I wanted to be a foreign correspondent. I got an MBA in Seoul because I fell in love with the country. I ended up in Seattle working in tech, where I built Machine Learning University, an internal program at Amazon.com to teach engineers ML from scratch. It grew enough that they turned it into a public product. After that I bounced around. Warner Bros. Discovery, back to Apple as a PM lead, left to start Fragmynt.ai because I had a question I couldn't stop thinking about, ran that for six months, came back to Apple as an ML engineer. Which is where I am now, though if you'd told 22-year-old me (journalism major, zero lines of code written, strong opinions) that this is where I'd end up, he would not have believed you.
